It Does Matter

All over the world, there are millions and millions of people who go to Church every week.  It is estimated that in America that 80% of the population say that they believe in God.  It is also estimated that 39% of the people in this country attend a church on a weekly basis.   Considering the times that we are living in, those are pretty high numbers.  Many of the churches around us are places where people find strength and encouragement.   People find companionship.

In one survey 81% of church goers said that they go because they want to become closer to God.  68% say that they go to be a better person.  66% go to find comfort.  59% find the sermons valuable.

On the flip side, 31% go because they feel obligated.  16% go just to please a family member.

Those are interesting numbers and basically they tell us that there is a hunger inside of people to want to do what is right, to want to believe in something that they can trust.

Several years ago when my kids were younger we took a trip to Washington DC.  One of my bosses that I worked with at the time asked if they could hitch a ride for part of the way.   Having a boss in the car was somewhat intimating, but at some point we got in a discussion and he said that he believes that the US Government has a body of an alien in their possession.  I said that I don’t believe that at all, but then he asked how I know for sure that there are no aliens.

I was caught off guard and struggled a little with the question.  Although I believe that the universe was created as part of our creation could it be that God has also created other planets of living beings?  What is the truth and can we prove it beyond a doubt?

There are lots of people who believe that the government is hiding something.   They say that they have 35 alien disks (or air crafts) and 131 alien bodies that they have collected over the past 50 years.  This is just...

We talk about the end of days as if it were a good thing. Perhaps we envision a smooth transition from the times we are living into the Kingdom of God. Some of this thinking probably comes because we really do not see how corrupt the days we live in are. In our minds society isn’t that bad, the world is a good place to live, and most people are decent.

But the reality of it is that IF these are the end of days, the bible tells us that they will pass with a LOUD noise. I don’t really know all the details of what lays ahead for the people of this earth, but from the things I see happening around us right now the end is not a time any person of God would want to live through.

We can see the growing hatred of Israel and how nations gather together against it. We can see the thirst and lust for power and control in both the political and religious worlds. We can see turmoil in the nation we live in and are witnessing firsthand the collapse of society.

Matthew 24:37-39

Our power went out for about 24 hours this past week. You don’t realize how dependent you are on power until you are without it, and then life seems to stop. Even the simple things like brushing your teeth become difficult. Without a nice hot shower to start your day, you end up feeling dirty and grimy. Without the noise and distraction of music, television or computer you just sit around feeling lost. Our lives have become very dependent on the power grid, but it wasn’t always like that. A couple hundred years ago there was no power grid, there were no power outages. These things are unique to our time and the generations that we live in.

There is something else that is unique to the time we are living in. The bible tells our generation that we are ignorant of something. That is that we are ignorant of something pretty major. Not only are we ignorant of this major thing but we are willingly ignorant of it. We choose to ignore it.

This generation, our...

2 Peter 3:3-10

The prophecies about the last days are sobering and somewhat scary. There have been so many talks about the last days that you would think that this room would be overflowing with believers who are waiting for the return of Christ. There are warnings and there are signs. Over and over again the bible tries to appeal to people to get ready so that the day of the Lord will not come as a surprise.

But at the same time we all feel the pull of the world grabbing at us. These are difficult days and our faith is challenged every time we wake up to a new day. The world is telling us that this all is a waste of time. Christ is not coming, and that there is no Christ. They say that religion is outdated and even dangerous. They tell us not to beat ourselves up over our sins, just to accept them and be happy. Get drunk, indulge, take pleasure, enjoy and you will live a much happier life than the bible promises you.

The world teaches that the bible is just...
